Dogs are extremely curious animals and they use their mouths and tongues to investigate alot of objects they come across. This may lead to them nibbling or downright eating some leaves or a part of a plant you have in your home for decoration. This is a list of a few common indoor plants to put up high or place strategically in your home to keep your pet safe around them!

Aloe Vera

This one is a double edge sword. Like for humans the gel that’s found inside the leaves can be used to treat skin abrasions and cuts/sores. But chewing on the plant can cause diarrhea and vomiting. Aloe is very toxic for pups.

Philodendron

These guys are super low maintenance and very easy to care for plant. This makes them super appealing but it’s leaves can cause severe swelling and burning in the pup’s mouth and tongue if licked or consumed.

Caladium or “Elephant Ear”

The huge leaves on this plant make it a fun addition to your home. But it’s leaves contain calcium oxalate crystals which can cause oral irritation inside dog’s mouth and can cause trouble breathing.

Bird of Paradise

Beautiful, colorful plant to add a pop of color to any room in your house. But also very attractive to the dogs. Causes nausea, vomiting, and drowsiness within about 20 min if eaten.

Peace Lily

This is a beautiful plant often given as a gift hence it’s name. Unfortunately it contains calcium oxalate crystals which can cause oral irritation, trouble swallowing and excessive drool.
